What Actually Matters When Choosing a Real Estate Agent
If you ask a dozen real estate agents why you should hire them, you’ll likely hear some version of the same three things:
• I’m a Top Producer.
• I’ve been in the business for 10, 20, even 30 years.
• I’m available 24/7.
If I'm being honest, none of these alone would convince me to hire a REALTOR®.
Not because they’re untrue or irrelevant, but because they’re incomplete. And frankly, they don’t tell you what it actually feels like to work with that agent, or how your transaction will be handled when things get complicated.
Because real estate always gets complicated.
Over the years, I’ve built my business around a different set of values. Ones that don’t always fit neatly on a billboard, but matter far more when real money, timing, and emotions are on the line.
Here’s what I believe actually matters.
I Do What I Say I’m Going to Do
This sounds basic. It’s not.
Real estate is full of promises:
“I’ll follow up.”
“I’ll circle back.”
“I’ll take care of it.”
What separates professionals from noise is follow-through.
Doing what you say you’re going to do builds trust quietly, over time. It means deadlines aren’t missed. Details aren’t glossed over. And clients aren’t left wondering what’s happening behind the scenes.
You shouldn’t have to chase your agent for clarity or accountability. That’s not concierge service - that’s table stakes.
I Create Experiences Worth Talking About
Buying or selling a home isn’t just a transaction. It’s an experience, and people remember how it made them feel long after the paperwork is filed away.
Most agents focus on the outcome alone: sold, closed, done.
I focus on how we get there.
Clear communication. Thoughtful preparation. Strategic guidance at the moments that matter most. A process that feels intentional, not chaotic.
When clients refer me, it’s rarely because of a stat or a slogan. It’s because they felt taken care of. Seen. Protected. That’s not accidental, it’s designed.
I Fundamentally Understand the Market
Not just the headlines. Not just the averages.
I understand how buyers behave when inventory is tight.
How sellers overprice when emotions creep in.
How negotiations actually unfold when multiple offers, timing pressure, or uncertainty enter the room.
Markets aren’t static, and neither is strategy.
Understanding the market means knowing when to push, when to pause, and when the obvious move is the wrong one. It’s pattern recognition, experience, and judgment all working together.
This is where real value lives.
The Bottom Line
“Top Producer” doesn’t tell you how decisions are made.
“Years in the business” doesn’t guarantee relevance.
“Available 24/7” doesn’t mean thoughtful or strategic.
What matters is integrity, intention, and insight.
That’s the business I’ve built. Quietly. Consistently. On purpose.
And for the right clients, that makes all the difference.
